Everywhere that I looked on the internet tells me that the average reading speed is 200 words per minute. You also have to assume that most people have a short attention span. People want quick information that can help solve their problem.

This is why you should write short and simple articles. Anything that requires prior knowledge or the dictionary to figure out what you are trying to say would scare readers away. You want to go straight to the point with whatever that you need to say to inform your readers.

If a reader types into the search engine "How To Potty Train My Puppy", and finds your article, you better explain in your article exactly how to potty train the puppy in simple layman's term and fast. A busy person might get too distracted to read a very long article.

Let's say your article has twenty paragraphs. Some readers might leave after reading about 5-6 paragraphs. When it comes to article marketing, your link to your website is usually at the end of the article. What does that tell you? You would get less people to click on your link if your article is too long!

If you really want to write a long article full of in-depth details, I suggest you take the time to write an e-book. You want to send people to your site to opt-in to your e-mailing list for your e-book. E-book is great for in-depth details because people can save the e-book to the computer, and always come back to read it later.
